Our IoT Heroes: Fatih Ozturk - Development Manager & Product Owner
Building an OS for IoT cameras from scratch is a complex mission. That's why at Security & Safety Things, several product owners and their teams are working on it. Fatih Ozturk is one of them.

What were your main reasons and motivations to join us?
After my master studies on embedded systems, I’ve been working at major technology companies for several years. Having dealt with networked systems in my previous roles as an embedded software engineer and team lead, I was eager to dive deeper into the exciting world of IoT technology. At Security & Safety Things, I have the chance to do both, building a groundbreaking new product and also working in a dynamic start-up environment. That fascinates me every day.
What are the central values in your working environment?
I enjoy working with highly motivated and open minded people, you find at Security & Safety Things. What makes working here so exciting is not only the vision to revolutionize the entire security industry, but also the mix of people from different disciplines, nationalities and cultures working on it. If you're looking for diversity and agility, Security & Safety Things is the place to be. This isn’t just a label, but part of the company’s DNA.
What superhero power can you draw on when you need it?
Working on cutting edge ideas and technologies requires people who not only bring their technical skills, but are also able to think out of the box. This is what I contribute as an embedded software engineer. As a team lead, I aim to build trust relationships within my team and beyond. My communication skills help me to unleash people's individual capabilities and talents and to form something that is much more than the individual parts.
To revolutionize an entire industry you need a strong vision and open-minded people.
What are the most interesting topics you will work on here and what will be the hardest tasks to solve?
The OS framework I'm working on with my team is to enable security cameras from different manufacturers to share analytics data between cameras and with other devices. A key challenge is to make devices from different ecosystems communicate with each other and also meet the specific requirements of the security industry. Users expect new AI features we bring to their IoT cameras to operate reliably 24/7, which is essential for most security & safety applications.
What do you see as the main trends in IoT in a business context and from your perspective as Product Owner?
Smart IoT enables real-time decision making and automating operations in all areas of business, public and private life. This requires connected systems to communicate with each other like humans, exchanging large amounts of data. Since cloud storage is expensive and bandwidth is limited, data in the IoT must become leaner and smarter - security cameras send analytics results instead of raw video data. With our open platform, we unleash the full potential of edge processing in security cameras.
The future of IoT in safety & security is about enabling devices to turn big data into smart data.
Fatih, thank you very much for the chat!
