Our IoT Heroes: Maria Cecília Lima - Marketing & Community Manager

Cecília is (currently) the youngster at Azena but has already gained a lot of experience in tech start-ups. After an internship, she now rocks our social channels as Marketing & Community Manager.

What were your main reasons and motivations to join us?

During my bachelor’s in social communications in Brazil, I have done a few internships in start-up environments, where I got in touch with technology and developed a passion for marketing. Through an ad for an internship, I came to Azena. Here I got the opportunity to develop further in an innovative company. I was also very tempted to live and work in another country, so my internship turned into a full-time job in digital marketing. That's exactly what I was looking for.

What are the central values in your working environment?

The people at Azena are very flexible, open-minded and respectful. While other companies claim to have flat hierarchies but retaining classic structures, Azena makes this a reality. As the one with probably the least experience here, I always find an open ear and lots of support from the team. In addition, I get a lot of room to move things that I think should be done. One of the marketing team mottoes here is "Good and on time is better than perfect and late". This suits me perfectly.

What superhero power can you draw on when you need it?

I know I can always rely on working creatively. That's why I like marketing that much, just as I love design and innovation. I think creativity is the best way to develop the right product for new scenarios in new markets, as we do here at Azena with our open IoT platform. Creativity helps us as a start-up and I myself am glad that I can always count on it, for example when implementing new social media marketing tactics.

What are the most interesting topics you will work on and what will be the hardest tasks to solve?

Bringing a product into a market that has not existed before is per se a major challenge, which is not finished when the launch is completed. There is always a lot of uncertainty, even when we try to find new ways to market our product. I work hard with the marketing team to give our brand a clear identity. At the marketing tactics level, we're very much into video for social platforms and live-streams for webinars. That's learning by doing every day.

What do you see as the main trends in IoT in a business context and from your perspective as a Marketing & Community Manager?

As someone who spends a lot of time in social media and notices what moves the market, I think computer vision in combination with AI will be the next big thing in many industries. IoT will grow faster than we think. Many concerns about data security and misuse will disappear when the new technological possibilities become reality and add value to businesses and our life. We as communicators have the responsibility to inform people as honestly and transparently as possible.
